Deciding Between Upright And Chest Freezer
This is a question many of us asks themselves when we are out to buy a new freezer. Here are some things to think about. Be aware that the chest freezer takes a lot more space on the floor than the upright freezer, it can be twice as much space in some ocassions. If you live in an apartment, this will certainly be a major consideration in your final decision.
Another thing, while it is true that you can stack stuff on top of a chest freezer, it’s really not convenient. The idea of stacking stuff on the freezer will look very bad to you after you have to remove all sorts of junk you have been piling there for weeks, just to get to one frozen pizza you wanted to eat on one sunny day.
But there are some positive sides as well; cheap chest freezer will save more energy and will be cheaper in the start, while it will offer you a lot more freezer space then a regular upright. The problem appears when they are fully loaded and you need to find something in there. Swimming through a frozen chest freezer that induces negative self-talk and frustration is not much of a joyride. I’ve done it more than once, even after I thought I had clearly marked everything. There were many ocasions I had to search through the frozen meat and vegetables with my frozen fingers while my feet were in the air. It is a cold, brutal experience. One thing you need to remember, no one can hear you scream in freezer. Only your family members who are standing right behind you, laughing and listening you scream.
And uprights still have some major advantages over chest freezers. As previously stated, they are easier to fill and subsequently find items that have been stored. It won’t be necesarry for you to search for a lifetime through a freezer just because you need to find an item you bought last month. Advantage is that many uprights have auto defrosting ability. Defrosting is a task we usually need to do once per year and we need to do it with most chest freezers, but bear in mind that manual defrosting is very long and tedious task do to.
Whichever you decide for, make sure you take good care of it. In case you do that, you will have a freezer with you for a long time.
